Hi, were the team behind FoodyWise – Edgars & Liga. What started off as a passionate hobby has now turned into a dedication to make a change in the way healthy food is perceived.
We are a reasonably large family of 2 adults and 4 youngsters from a small country in Eastern Europe — Latvia. In this part of the world, we might be lacking some exotic fruits and vegetables and the summer lasts for only 3 short months (with the rest of the year being an undefinable "sprautumn"). However, we are rather privileged to grow essential items in our garden where the soil is rich in nutrients.
Over the course of the years, we have been exploring various diets and cuisines with the main goal of finding what (a) makes our taste buds happy and (b) does no harm to our health. While the first goal might be fairly easy to achieve, we've been struggling a lot with the second one.
The information that we came across was contradictory and at times confusing. Our comfort zone and beliefs were challenged repeatedly. What we believed was the best for our health and well-being turned out to be a devil in disguise.
So we experimented with vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, ketogenic, and other diets. And we found that "low-carb" work best considering our taste, health-related considerations, and lifestyle.
However, what we have learned throughout this journey is that no diet is a constant; it can (and most probably will) change over time.
When switching to keto and a low-carb diet, it was confusing, to say the least. We had to turn our meal plan upside down, and with 4 kids around, it wasn't an easy task at all.
A lot of experiments with publicly available recipes that promised substitutes for popular comfort foods ended up with devastating failures. At the end of the day, simply replacing flour with more eggs won't give you the pancakes that you're craving, will it? We were missing the good old days of fried potatoes, sushi cake, and muffins.
What we didn't know back then though was that a low-carb diet CAN be rewarding (improving both your health and well-being) and incredibly delicious. And we mean it!
When Edgars started experimenting in the kitchen with low-carb and keto cakes and chocolate, a whole new world opened up in front of me. After tasting those amazing 100% sugar-free and wheat-flour-free (= guilt-free) cakes that tasted absolutely stunning we knew there was no way back. And we wanted to share the knowledge and vision with the rest.
That's when our blog was born. With a desire to share our passion and inspire people to make tiny positive changes each day for a healthier and more rewarding tomorrow.
Having tested a pile of recipes and experimented with our own ideas, we are sharing only the gems that deserve a place in our whitelist so that you don't have to second-guess the result. We spent a huge number of hours in the kitchen and threw out an inexcusable large amount of ingredients on failing dishes so that you wouldn't have to.
We all deserve to be healthy. Without sacrificing the satisfaction that food can provide.
With that being said - Bon Appétit!
